On Friday, May 13, the Foundation organized an online distribution info session for documentary filmmakers, hosted by Open Road Media. The event featured presentations by Tribeca Film Institute Reframe’s Kelly DeVine and SnagFilm’s Andrew Mer, both of whom discussed the various options open to filmmakers who are self-distributing their films.
Up for discussion were Netflix (overall, a good thing for indie documentarians?), tiered pricing for educational and home use, the continued importance of DVDs to certain markets, “filmmanthropy,” and other distribution venues, such as coops like New Day Films.
We’re thrilled by the response from everyone who could attend either in person or via WebEx, and we’re excited to hold more of these professional development events in the future.
